WORKSHOPS
Nurmes Summer Academy offers a unique opportunity for comprehensive study. In addition to private tuition, the course fee includes 1-3 workshops, the descriptions of which you can find below. When registering, choose 1-3 favorite workshops.
We fill the workshops in order of registration.
1. BAROQUE WORKSHOP
Teacher: Markku Mäkinen
In the workshop, under the expert guidance of organist-harpsichordist Markku Mäkinen, the practice of performing music from the Baroque period will be introduced.
In the workshop, there is an opportunity to receive guidance in both solo repertoire (pianists get to know playing the harpsichord) and continuo playing, according to the needs of each student. You can also bring baroque chamber music to the workshop!
Teaching is given in 3x90 min group lessons.
2. PERFORMANCE COACHING
THROUGH THEATER EXPRESSION
Teacher: Timo Vuento
Are your hands shaking? Is breathing blocked?
Is the brain hitting the panic button? In the performance training workshop, work tools are acquired for facing the performance situation with the help of various exercises and theater plays.
The workshop focuses on studying performance, becoming aware of its stages and recognizing one's own behavior in a performance situation.
Timo Vuento, an actor and director of theater expression, acts as the gentle and inspiring director of the workshop. Participation does not require previous experience in theater or acting!
Presentation coaching classes are given 3x75 minutes.
4. CHAMBER MUSIC
The teachers are the artists of the festival
Play chamber music in groups made up of Summer Academy students, from duos to quintets.
If you have any wishes for potential chamber music partners, please let us know when you register.
The groups and the works they work on are formed after the registration period for the Summer Academy ends, and the notes for the songs are sent
for the members of the chamber music ensemble during June.
Chamber music lessons are given 3x60 min.

5. CHAMBER MUSIC WITH THE ARTIST
A festival artist playing in a chamber music group as a teacher
In this workshop
one of the playing members of the chamber music group is one of the artists of the festival, who also acts as the group's teacher.
The groups and the pieces they work on will be decided after the registration period for the Summer Academy ends, and the sheet music of the songs will be sent to the members of the chamber music ensemble in mid-June.
Chamber music lessons are given 3x60 min.
6. SING FOR INSTRUMENTALISTS
Teacher: Tuuli Lindeberg
In a singing workshop piloted by soprano Tuuli Lindeberg, we practice
fundamentals of vocal voice use and ensemble singing for players and those interested in singing in other ways.
Vocal ensembles working in choirs are also welcome!
The program and content emphasis are made according to the wishes and interests of the registered students (e.g. canons, one singer per stemma program with accompaniment or a cappella).
The workshop is suitable for everyone, regardless of previous experience, and it is also possible to participate in the group on a one-time basis.
Teaching is given 3x90 minutes, if necessary partly in small groups.
7. GENTLE CONTEMPORARY DANCE
Teacher: Siiri Kortelainen
In the gentle contemporary dance for musicians course, we work on suggestions arising from our own body.
Under the gentle and dynamic guidance of dancer Siiri Korkalainen, exercises are performed from movement research and improvisational starting points, looking for each person's personal and enjoyable dance through various movement tasks. In addition, the class includes body care and somatic exercises.
In the course, everyone works from their own starting point, and the course does not require a previous dance background or a certain movement ability.
The class is also suitable for one-time participation!
Teaching is given 3 x 90 min.
8. COMPOSITION WORKSHOP
Teacher: Lotta Wennäkoski
Try composing?
Why not - and of course! The composition workshop opens a peephole into how a person composing looks and listens to the world. The workshop offers practical guidance and tips for both beginners and those who are already composing.
The leader of the course is Lotta Wennäkoski, the pride of Finnish music composer of our time.
Teaching is given
3x90 min in group lesson format.
