About the event
TIMELESS
“Birds are the opposite of time: they embody our longing for light, stars, rainbows and songs of praise,” writes Olivier Messiaen. The heavenly, free-winged creatures were his inexhaustible source of inspiration.
The concert's prelude will feature Debussy's only surviving composition from 1914. The composer, shocked by the outbreak of World War I, did not want to create anything else at the time. Is there existence free from the shackles of time, what is eternity? Can accepting finiteness turn our thoughts to love and gentleness? The mind can take flight by embracing the infinity of music.
